The Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate offers a unique, insider’s perspective on the daily workings of the U.S. Senate, one of the most important governmental bodies in the country. This relatively new attraction boasts several state-of-the-art exhibit halls featuring diverse topics such as Senate history and culture and how a bill becomes a law, plus full-scale authentic reproductions of Senator Kennedy’s office and the Senate Chamber itself!

Another popular feature of the Institute is the “Issue of the Day,” where visitors are presented with a new daily topic to guide them through the exhibits. Fans of American history and visitors invested in civic engagement will find much to admire in this attraction.

Getting In

Present your pass at the admission desk.


The following groups always receive free general admission:

  • All children ages 6 and under
  • Massachusetts residents ages 17 and under
  • U.S. Active Duty Armed Forces

If you fit any of the criteria above you will not need to have your pass scanned for admission, but you will be asked to provide a valid I.D. upon entry.

Driving Directions

I-93 to Exit 15 (from the North) or Exit 14 (from the South) to Morrissey Boulevard and follow signs to the Institute. As the destination address for GPS purposes, please use University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston) campus, 100 Morrissey Boulevard.

Public Transportation

Take the T: Red Line to JFK/UMass station and take Bus #2, a free shuttle bus that drops off in front of the Institute.
